Руины могут быть завораживающими и вызывать глубокие чувства. Город мог бы приобрести значимость с научной, культурной, эмоциональной точки зрения, стать полем вдохновения и волнения в научной и общественной среде в ходе исследования. Раскопки средневекового города Ани, начавшиеся в конце 19 века, стали поворотным моментом в развитии армянской общественной, культурной жизни и научной мысли, раскопки, которые не только вдохнули новую жизнь в руины Ани, но и также стали уникальной средой для возрождения армянской идентичности. В то время, когда шли раскопки, в армянской действительности наблюдались шаги нового восприятия и переоценки идентичности, они были заметны в сферах науки, культуры, прессы, политики и общества, и данное археологическое исследование было направлено на Открытие Ани привнесло в армянскую действительность свой энтузиазм. Эти раскопки привлекли внимание людей не только к изучению исторических памятников и их сохранению, но и способствовали повышению национального самосознания. Раскопки Ани были не просто археологической миссией, это было полем переосмысления всего армянского исторического прошлого, памяти и идентичности. Работа экспедиции Ани оставила след не только в развитии кавказской и армянской научной мысли, но и открыла новое направление развития арменоведения, археологии, рукописи, исторической архитектуры. Сформировавшаяся в Ани школа арменоведения стала одной из основ развития арменоведения 20 века.
Ruins can be fascinating and evoke a depth of feeling. The city could gain importance from a scientific, cultural, emotional point of view, becoming a field of inspiration in the scientific and public environment during the study. The excavations of the medieval city of Ani, which began at the end of the 19th century, were a turning point for the development of Armenian public, cultural life and scientific thought, excavations that not only breathed new life into the ruins of Ani, but also became a unique environment for the revival of Armenian identity. At the time when the excavations were going on, steps of a new perception and revaluation of identity were observed in the Armenian reality, they were noticeable in the fields of science, culture, press, politics and society, and this archaeological study aimed at the discovery of Ani brought its own enthusiasm into the Armenian reality. These excavations drew people's attention not only to the study of historical monuments and their preservation, but also contributed to raising national self-awareness. Ani's excavations were not just an archaeological mission, it was a field of reexamination of the entire Armenian historical past, memory and identity. The work of Ani's expedition left its mark not only on the development of Caucasian and Armenian scientific thought, but also paved a new direction for the development of Armenology, archaeology, handwriting, and historical architecture. The Armenian studies school formed in Ani became one of the foundations on which Armenian studies of the 20th century developed.
