The article covers the romantic poems of Mkrtich Peshiktashlyan, apologist of the Armenian National Liberation Movement of 50-60s of the 19th century, particularly the series of “Zeytunyan erger” (Zeytunyan Songs), which were widely known in the Armenian poetry of that time. Peshiktashlyan’s patriotic poetry was created in a unique genre of poetic publicism and is the direct response to both the poet’s and the modem national identity issues.
