Выступая в роли освободителя, французская военная экспедиция на самом деле преследовала экспансионистские цели. В результате Наполеон Бонапарт вынужден был бороться не только против англичан, но и против египетских националистов. The French Directory pursued the goal of conquering Egypt, which would provide military and economic superiority over England and could solve the Rhine problem. Acting as a liberator, the French military expedition actually pursued expansionist goals. As a result, Napoleon Bonaparte was forced to fight not only against the British, but against the Egyptian nationalists too.
