В 30-х годах XIX века пейзаж постепенно высвобождается из оков классицизма. Пленерное восприятие становится неотъемлемой частью создания пейзажа, чему следовал в своем творчестве Вардан Махохян. Образно-композиционное построение его картин тяготеет ко второму поколению “Барбизонской школы”, которая проложила дорогу новым направлениям конца XIX столетия и, в первую очередь, к столь близкому Махохяну символизму. In the 30s of the 20th century, gradually freeing itself of the regulated norms of Classicism, the landscape painting finds its genuine expression through some simple pathways – through immediate impressions, free light and colour play. The plein-air perceptions grow into the indispensible constituent in creating landscapes. Thus, Vardan Mahokhian’s art, from the very beginning, stems from that very fresh perspective.
