Abstract:

В армянонаселенных городах Канады были созданы армянские любительские театральные труппы. В 1976 году известный армянский театральный деятель Перч Фазлян основал в Монреале армянскую театральную труппу "Ай бем" ("Армянская сцена") культурного общества Текеян. Силами этой труппы в феврале 1984 года впервые в Канаде на армянском языке была поставлена трагедия Шекспира "Отелло". Спектакль имел огромный успех как у армянских, так и иностранных зрителей. Since their first days of settlement in Canada, Armenians have hosted various charity events and concerts in order to collect donations for the Armenian refugees, schools and hospitals and to unite the Armenians. These events, despite their insignificant artistic value, had a great contribution to the upbringing of young Armenian generations and helped retain the ethnic identity in the Armenian colonies in Canada. Later on, amateur Armenian theatre companies started operating in Canadian cities. In 1976, Perch Fazlyan, a famous Armenian playwright and critic, founded Armenian theatre company Hay Bem (Armenian Stage) of Tekeyan Cultural Association in Montreal. The company played Shakespeare’s Othello in February, 1984 for the first time in Armenian in Canada. The high quality of the production and the acting started the history of the theatre in the Armenian Diaspora.
