Abstract:

The article considers the model of adaptation to a new place of an emigrant group of Armenians experiencing second emigration. People feit al home at the new place by transferring tombstones, cross-stones, and church Utensils from the former settlement, and by giving its name to the new place. Thus the new land, the soil is symbolically adapted by ascribing the attributes of a molher in labour (Tellus Mater) to it.
