Abstract:

In Russian and European Grammars the problem of the origin of the infinitive is studied in the first place whereas the problem of its charakter is solved other way. In the logical grammars it is regarded as one modal of the form of the verb. In the formal grammars it is regarded as a part of the verbal system on the one hand and as a separate part of speech on another. In the later grammars, for example in the grammars of O. Yespeersen an d L. Teniere it ist regarded again as a separate part of speech, and in the gnoseological grammars is included in the verbal system with the other impersonal forms of the verb .
