Գիտության լեզվի բառապաշարային և իմաստաբանական գործընթացներից բացի, լեզվաբանները նշում են տերմինաբանությանը բնորոշ հատուկ երևույթներ: Մինչդեռ լեզվական նշանի արտաքին կողմը մնում է անփոփոխ, սահմանման մեջ արտացոլված հասկացության կառուցվածքը կարող է փոխվել տերմինի ներսում: Սա տեղի է ունենում հասկացության զարգացմանը՝ գիտական գիտելիքների զարգացման տարբեր փուլերում զարգանալուն զուգընթաց: Գիտության լեզվով տերմինի էության վերաբերյալ կոնսենսուս չկա: Տերմինի լեզվական բնույթի վերաբերյալ ի հայտ են եկել բազմաթիվ հակասական տեսակետներ: Այնուամենայնիվ, բոլոր լեզվաբանները համաձայն են, որ տերմինները շատ առումներով տարբերվում են գրական լեզվի մյուս բառերից:
In addition to lexico-semantic processes in the language of science, linguists note special phenomena peculiar only to terminology.
