Սույն հոդվածը վերլուծում է Թոմաս Մանի «Դոկտոր Ֆաուստուս» վեպը՝ արվեստի, մեղքի և բարոյականության փոխհարաբերության համատեքստում։ Վեպի գլխավոր հերոսը՝ կոմպոզիտոր Ադրիան Լևերքյունը, հանուն ստեղծագործական մեծության հրաժարվում է սիրուց և խորհրդանշական կերպով կնքում է «պայմանագիր սատանայի հետ»։ Այս դաշինքը դիտարկվում է նաև որպես Գերմանիայի պատմական ճակատագրի այլաբանություն։
This paper looks at Thomas Mann’s Doctor Faustus and how it deals with questions of art, sin, and morality. The novel follows Adrian Leverkühn, a composer who gives up love and human closeness in order to pursue artistic greatness, a choice that leads him into a symbolic “pact with the devil.” This pact can also be read as a reflection of Germany’s uneasy relationship with its own history and moral responsibility, though the parallel is not always direct.
