Обычно различают два основных периода в развитии лингвистической типологии, а именно: классическую голистическую (holistic) типологию и современную частную (partial) типологию. Однако в статье аргументируется, что трехэтапная периодизация была бы более адекватной с теоретической и методологической точки зрения, чем обычная двухэтапная. В частности, лингвистическая типология в эпоху структурализма (а точнее, с первых десятилетий до конца пятидесятых 20-ого века) может рассматриваться как отдельный период ввиду своих определенных теоретических и методологических особенностей. Соответственно, предлагается следую- щaя периодизация истории лингвистической типологии: 1) период однопризнаково-(или малопризнаково-)-классификационной голистической (holistic) типологии (19- ый век и, частично, начало 20-ого века), 2) период системной, многопризнаково-классификационной голистической типологии (с первых десятилетий до конца пятидесятых 20-ого века), 3) период обобщающе-объяснительной частной типологии (с шестидесятых 20-ого века до наших дней). Two main periods are commonly distinguished in the history of linguistic typology, namely, classical holistic vs. modern partial typology. However, it is argued in the paper that a three-stage periodization would be more adequate from a theoretical and methodological perspective than the two-stage one. Specifically, linguistic typology in the age of structuralism (to be more precise, from the first decades up to the late fifties of the twentieth century) can be regarded as a separate period in view of its certain theoretical and methodological peculiarities. Accordingly, the following periodization of the history of linguistic typology is proposed: 1) the period of mono-feature-(or pauci-feature)-classificatory holistic typology (the 19th century and, partly, the beginning of the 20th century); 2) the period of systemic, multi-feature-classificatory holistic typology (from the first decades up to the late fifties of the 20th century); 3) the period of generalizing-explanatory partial typology (from the sixties of the 20th century up to nowadays).
