Создание в ноябре 1943 г. в составе Академии наук Армении Института истории придало новый толчок отечественной историографии. Основание Института и первые годы его деятельности неразрывно связаны с именем первого президента Академии наук Армении, академика И. А. Орбели. Институт вскоре собрал коллектив выдающихся представителей армянской исторической науки и стал основным и передовым центром исторической мысли республики. Фактически началось систематическое и целостное изучение истории Армении и армянского народа с древнейших времен до новейшего периода. In November 1943 the formation of the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of Armenia gave a new impetus to the national historiography. The foundation of the Institute and the first years of its activities are inextricably linked with the name of the first President of the Academy of Sciences of Armenia, academician H.A. Orbeli. The Institute soon put together the team of prominent representatives of the Armenian historical science and became a leading center of the historical thought of the Republic. In fact, there started a systematic and holistic study of the history of Armenia and the Armenian people from ancient times to the modern period.
