Abstract:

Во время Первой мировой войны, французские власти обсуждали вопрос о формировании Армянской добровольческой армии. По соглашению Сайкса-Пико (1916 г.) Киликия и часть Армении должны были перейти к Франции. Франция имела ограниченные войска в Востоке и хотела увеличить свое военное присутствие в счет армян. В конце концов, французы и британцы согласились на формирование Армянского легиона на Кипре. Первый батальон армянского легиона был сформирован в конце 1916 года. Первый командир легиона Луи Ромио сыграл важную роль в установлении тесных отношений с британцами и развертывания легиона в Кипре.
During World War I, the French authorities were discussing the question of formation Armenian voluntary army. By Sykes-Picot agreement (1916) France had to get Cilicia and part of Armenia. France had limited troops in the East and would like to increase its military presence at the expense of the Armenians. Eventually, the French and the British agreed on the formation of the Armenian Legion in Cyprus. The first battalion of the Armenian Legion was formed in late 1916. The first commander of the Legion Louis Romio had an important role in establishing close relations with British and deployment of legion in Cyprus.
