Видный государственный и религиозный деятель архиепископ Иосиф Аргутян, будучи сторонником русской ориентации, всячески поднимал в кругах армянских национальных деятелей вопрос освобождения Армении от чужеземного ига с помощью русских войск. Он также вел переписку с Католикосом Всех Армян Гукасом Карнеци по этому вопросу. В этих письмах выражены различия в политических взглядах двух деятелей, их переживания и отношение к политическим и религиозным проблемам армянского народа. The prominent political and religious figure, the Russian-oriented Archbishop Hovsep Arghutyan, raised the question of the national liberation struggle for Armenia from foreign yoke with the help of Russian troops in circles of Armenian national authorities. He also discussed the question with the Catholicos of All Armenians Ghukas Karnetsi. These letters depict the differences of political views of both figures, their feelings and attitude to the political and religious problems of Armenian people.
