Abstract:

The article deals with the facts referring to the history of Melik-Shahnazaryans, the meliks of Gegharkuni region of Armenia, on the basis of data found in Persian documents attached to the personal file compiled in connection with the prosecution of Davit Khan Melik-Shahnazaryan at the beginning of 19th century. Author represents new details in the biography of Davit Khan Melik-Shahnazaryan, the 19th century representative of the old noble family. Davit Khan being an outslanding figure in the court of the Crown prince Abbas Mirza, and playing part in the diplomatic relations between Persian govemment and Napoleon, the Emperor of France, also in the relations of the Persian rulers with Armenian high Clergymen, had gotten decrees confirming his hereditary rights on the estates of his ancestors in Gegharkuni. He made great efforts to have these estates in the period from 1828 to 1831, when it was already under the rule of Russian Emperor, and he passed through long and unsuccessful legal proceedings during which the file mentioned above was compiled.
