Abstract:

We investigate the radiation generated by a train of bunches crossing a ball. The expressions for the spectral and angular distributions of the radiation energy are obtained for a general case of the dispersion law for the material of the ball. The consideration is based on the corresponding exact analytical solutions of Maxwell’s equations. The numerical results are given for a dielectric ball. The possibility for the appearance of strong peaks in the spectral distribution of the radiation energy is demonstrated. The wavelengths corresponding to these peaks are of the order of the ball radius. A visual explanation of this phenomenon is provided.
