Abstract:

To study the effect of temperature (400-800°C) and period of post-annealing (15–60 min) on the optical properties of ZnO thin films, Zn has been sputtered on glass substrate followed by thermal oxidation. The transmittance, reflection power, absorption coefficient as well as optical band gap energy for different conditions have been measured. The transmittance of ZnO film up to 600°C roughly is constant, but at higher temperatures (700°C) areduction of the transmittance took place, while reflectance showed increase. The optical band gap ( ) did not vary with temperature and period of heating. Longer period of post annealing at 600°C caused a rise of the transmittance, while at 700°C a reduction of the transmission took place, which can be due to the surface diffusion of Zn. Higher temperature and longer period of post annealing produce larger growth size and better crystal quality. The XRD results have been supported by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) studies.
