Հնդեվրոպական նախահայրենիքի խնդիրը և վաղնջահայերենը

В современной науке наибольшее распространение имеют две теории: 1) неолитическая, которая локализует индоевропейскую прародину в Малой Азии (ок. 7000 г. до н.э.); 2) степная или курганная, согласно которой индоевропейцы–древние жители Украины и южной России (ок. 4000 г. до н.э.) Теорию Т. Гамкрелидзе и В. Иванова (армянская гипотеза) можно рассматривать как частный случай первой. Армянский, согласно этим теориям, мог отделиться от индоевропейского праязыка на территории Малой Азии, на Балканах или на севере Черного и Каспийского морей, где он развивался в контакте с греческим и индоиранским. Currently, there are two models of localization and spread of Proto-Indo-European languages: 1) the Neolithic model that involves a wave of advance from Anatolia c. 7000 BC; 2) the steppe or kurgan model which sees the Proto Indo-Europeans emerging out of local communities in the forest-steppe of the Ukraine and south Russia, whose expansion westwards is initiated c. 4000 BC. The theory by T. Gamkrelidze and V. Ivanov (Armenian hypothesis) might be regarded as a special case of the first of them. Armenian, according to these theories, could have separated from the Indo-European in Anatolia, in the Balkans or in the north of the Black and Caspian seas, where it neighbored with Greek and Indo-Iranian.
