The 12 letters published in this article, written by Nshan Beshigtashlian to Antranig Dzarugian between 1938 and 1961, show the close friendship and literary collaboration between the two Western Armenian writers. Beshigtashlian writes about sending articles, stories, and satirical pieces to Nayiri, the magazine Dzarugian edited and published. The letters include discussions of publication plans, honorariums, and practical matters related to writing. A large part of the lաetters speaks to Beshigtashlian’s difficult financial situation. He frequently asks Dzarugian to send the honoraria immediately, as he depends on his writing to support himself and his family. He also shares news of illness, exhaustion, as well as personal struggles. In general, the letters provide information on the everyday life of a diasporan Armenian writer in those years, his worries, hopes, and creative work, and show how important friendship and cooperation were for surviving and continuing literary activity far from the homeland.
