Abstract:

The paper states that since its launching in 1970, the Haigazian Armenological Review (HAR) has gathered quite a large number of papers on Armenian studies and has generated its own sphere in the field. The paper highlights diverse features of the HAR such as the inclination towards a broader definition of Armenian Studies, the inclusion of the concept of Armenian Economy, and “Armenianizing” other studies and disciplines. This may seem strange at first glance, yet adapting such disciplines to the sphere of Armenian Studies does make sense. The author highly appreciates the fact that one can find papers and studies on diverse disciplines and topics from medieval Armenian literature to the art of Armenian rug weaving, arts and crafts, Diaspora Studies, Armenian rock music, archival publications, and materials which deal with the past and present of Armenian life. Such a diversity attracts an equally diverse readership, which helps in maintaining both the demand for and development of Armenian Studies at a time when interest in humanities is receding. The author highlights the abundance of papers which are based on falsified, biased and misinterpreted facts and adds that in certain cases Armenian Studies have become reactions to such antiscientific and anti-Armenian 'studies.' In this regard, she appreciates the suggestions of the editorial board, which enable the authors and the papers to acquire a broad perspective and go far beyond a reaction to such unscientific papers and make the Armenian image as real and true as possible. The author appreciates the efforts conducted by the editorioal board in Armenianizing terminology as part of a policy of making Armenian a scientific language. Last but not least, the author asserts that the HAR has truly become a means of communication and a bridge between the scholars of Armenia and the Diaspora and wishes that the Review was better presented in international academic search engines. This speech was presented at the launching of the two books of the 45th volume of the Haigazian Armenological Review, held at the Hovhannes Sharambeian Folk Arts Museum in Yerevan on June 17, 2025
