Византийской империи удалось уничтожить Багратидское царство Ани, a последнего царя взять в заложники. Будучи опытным стратегом и государственным деятелем, Гагик II сумел наладить отношения с Византийской империей и удостоиться высоких почестей. В новой среде Гагик II стал ключевой фигурой, объединившей местных армян, которые его воспринимали в качестве армянского царя. При этом Гагик II всячески пытался восстановить утраченную государственность, и это начинание Гагик II в будущем было продолжено его потомками. The Byzantine Empire managed to destroy the Bagratid kingdom of Ani and block the last king within the borders of empire. Being a qualified military and statesman, Gagik was able to establish relations with the empire and receive a number of high honors. In the new environment, he became an important force uniting local Armenians, and was adopted as an Armenian king. Attempts of Gagik II to restore the lost statehood was continued in the future by his descendants.
