В конце XIX века некогда могущественная Османская империя переживала упадок.Поражение в русско-турецкой войне 1877-1878 гг. и экономические трудности обострили ситуацию. Изгнанные из Европы турки ужесточили репрессии против покоренных народов, особенно против армян. Репрессии были предприняты и в отношении населенной в основном армянами экономически и культурно развитой провинции Карин.The once powerful Ottoman Empire was in decline in the end of XIX century. The defeat in the Russo-Turkish war in 1877-78 and economic difficulties aggravated the situation. Turks, expelled from Europe, intensified violent repression against the subject peoples, especially against Armenians. Karin, an economically and culturally advanced province, mostly populated by the Armenians, did not remain on the sidelines.
