Վերջին տարիներին ԱՄՆ-ի պատկան մարմինները և գիտական մի շարք կենտրոններ Իրանի Իսլամական Հանրապետության բնակչության տարբեր խմբերին էթնիկ և ազգային ինքնություններ վերագրելու միջոցով փորձում են տարանջատել նրանց: Մասնավորապես, թյուրքալեզու իրանցիներին ներկայացնում են որպես «էթնիկ ադրբեջանցիներ»` այդպիսով ուղղակի կամ անուղղակի կերպով նրանց նույնացնելով Ադրբեջանի Հանրապետության քաղաքացիների հետ: Այնուամենայնիվ, պաշտոնական Իրանը չի ճանաչում բնակչության` ըստ էթնիկ ծագման տարաբաժանելու սկզբունքը` հակադրվող ինքնությունների առանձնացումը համարելով միջամտություն երկրի ներքին գործերին: The present paper studies the American practice of ascribing ethnic and national identities to various parts of the population of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Turkic-speaking Iranians, in particular, are called "ethnic Azeris" in some sources, and thus are directly or indirectly identified with the population of Azerbaijan Republic. However, official Iran does not recognize the separation of people based on their ethnic origin, regarding the use of imposed identities as interference in the internal affairs of the country.
