Широк был круг научных интересов А. Ширакаци. Он занимался исследованиями в области математики, астрологии, метрологии, геометрии, географии и иных наук. Ученый верил в великую движущую силу науки, придавая важное значение опыту и научному созерцанию, в то время как наука основывалась на традициях. Анания Ширакаци мечтал о восстановлении Армянского царства (1-5 вв.). В его труде “Армянская география” (“Ашхарацуйц”) представлена география и этнография Аршакидской области и провинции Великой Армении, ее флора и фауна. Будучи защитником Армянской апостольской церкви, он заботился об укреплении ее основ, сохранении ее структуры. Ученый работал над созданием армянского неподвижного календаря. The scope of Anania Shirakatsy’s interests was quite wide. He did research into mathematics, astrology, weights and measures, geometry, geography and so on. In his opinion, there was nothing beyond human mind. He believed in great force of science highlighting experience and self-reflection, whereas the science of the time was based on traditions. Anania Shirakatsy dreamed to see the Armenian kingdom (1st -7th cc) resurrected. His “Armenian geography” (Ashkharatsuyts) features the geography and ethnohraphy, flora and fauna of the provinces in Great Armenia. Being a defender of the Armenian Apostolic church, he took care of strengthening its basis and structure. Shirakatsy also worked on the idea of Armenian fixed calendar.
