В западноармянской среде протестантство стало распространяться в XIX в.вплоть до начала XX в. благодаря активной деятельности американских миссионеров. Утвердившись в Западной Армении, миссионеры стали свидетелями армянских погромов 1894-1895 годов. Воспоминания и свидетельства американских протестантских миссионеров явствуют об антиармянской политике османского правительства. Within the period of the 19th century till the beginning of the 20th century, because of the intensive activity of the American missioners, Protestantism began spreading among Western Armenians. Settling down in Western Armenia, starting from 1894-95, the missioners inadvertently witnessed the Armenian massacres. The memories, information, and testimony provided by the American Protestant missioners reveal the anti-Armenian policy of the Ottoman government disproving the deceitful hypotheses of the modern Turkish historiography.
