На протяжении веков на Севанском острове был построен ряд церквей, из которых уцелели лишь две. Самая древняя из них—церковь св. Карапета. Усилиями вардапета Маштоца и на средства княгини Мариам Багратуни рядом с ней в 871 г. была возведена подобного же типа церковь св. Аракелоц (Апостолов), а на северо-западном склоне холма—церковь св. Аствацацин (Богородицы). Constructed in the course of centuries on the island on the lake Sevan a number of churches were built. The earliest one is the church of St. Karapet. Through the efforts of Vardapet Mashtots and the material support given by princess Mariam Bagratuni, another church of similar type was erected in 871 close by the church of St. Arakelots (Apostles),while constructed on the North-Wastern slope of the hill was still another church of St. Astvatsatsin (the Holy Virgin).
