Abstract:
Sadun II Artsruni Mahkanaberdtsi, a figure from the 13th century, stands out as one of the prominent individuals of the late Armenian authoritarian regime. He earned recognition and honors due to his remarkable victory over a giant Mongol wrestler in the presence of llkhan Hulavu and the entire Mongolian Council of Elders, likely in 1256/57. According to the historian Kirakos Gandzaketsu, the prince took part in the Assyrian campaign of 1258/60. In 1261/62, he was a "trial interlocutor" serving as a translator during the trial concerning the rebellion of Georgian king David E., whom he exonerated. By 1271/72, the prince ascended to the position of atabek, amirspasalar of the "Vilayet of Georgia". Concurrently, he undertook the role of hejub-manager of the Avagyan feud, likely holding this position until his death in 1284, and was buried in the renowned monastery of Haghpat.
