The article discusses the current methodological problems of the relationship between theoretical and applied knowledge in the context of the development of new industrial revolution technologies. In the study,it isargued that the linear-chain model of the relation of basic and applied knowledge has been replaced by the model of emergent-exponential relation, which is essentialnot only from the epistemolo-gical point of view but also from the point of view of substantiating the need for a new structure of the field of science and the implementation of a new policy towards it withinthe development of all spheres of public life.
