Rubrication As A Reflection Of The Liturgy In The Decorative System Of Armenian Manuscript Gospels
Центр поддержки арменистических исследований. Москва
The system of artistic appearance of Armenian Manuscript Gospels is identified by marginal decors and pictures on text pages, which mention the beginning of certain extracts from Gospel text – rubrics with distinguished initials. Those extracts are readings from Gospel during the liturgy and are called §³õ»ï³ñ³Ýù ·É˳õáñù¦ (“Main Gospels”). Similar Rubrication allows to use Four Gospels (Tetraevangelia), which were Armenian Gospels in the Middle Ages, also as a Book of Pericopes. That peculiarity of Armenian Manuscript Gospels artistic appearance is examined in detail in the article: the formation and development of rubrics and marginals are reviewed from IX-XIV centuries. The rubric with the marginal are valued as an artistic unit of Armenian Gospel Artistic System.
