The idea of a spiritual life has not only theoretical, but also the huge practical value. During centuries it was the internal core and driving force of various cultures and civilizations. It rendered determining influence both on а private world of separate individuals, and on value system of whole peoples. Therefore the investigation of various forms and manifestations of spiritual life is of great scientific interest as without it our conceptions of the history of world culture in many respects would remain defective. The medieval armenian culture pertained to the number of those cultures in which the spiritual life was of great value. In this connection one can find the rich material for research in the works of the armenian Church Fathers of the 5-th Century, mainly in " The diffuse discourses ", attributed to St. Gregory Illuminator, and in the discourses of St. John Mandakuni.
