Կոմիտասին կարելի է դիտարկել որպես Եղեռնին նախորդող տասնամյակների հայ–գերմանական հարաբերությունների վառ խորհրդանիշ ։ Այդ ժամանակ երկու ազգերն էլ գտնվում էին «ազգի կառուցման » գործընթացում, թեև՝ զարգացման տարբեր փուլերում, և երկուսն էլ երաժշտությունը բացահայտել էին որպես կարևոր միջոց ։ Բեռլինում ուսանելու տարիները Կոմիտասի համար առանձնահատուկ կարևոր էին։ Նոր հիմնադրված Գերմանական Կայսրության մայրաքաղաքը միայն գեղարվեստական հմտություններ և մասնագիտական գիտելիքներ փոխանակելու ու ձեռք բերելու վայր չէր։ Բեռլինը մի ընթացք էր, որը Կոմիտասին ցույց տվեց երաժշտության միջոցով հայ ազգի պասիվ դիմակայումից դեպի ակտիվ ձևավորման ճանապարհը ։ Կոմիտասի միջոցով գերմանական ոգին և գիտությունը անջնջելիորեն փորագրվեցին հայ ազգային երաժշտության մեջ։
Komitas can be considered a vivid symbol of Armenian–German relations in the decades before the Genocide. At that time both nations were in the process of nation building, albeit at different stages of development, and both had discovered music as an important tool. The years of study in Berlin were of particular importance for Komitas. The capital of the newly founded German Empire was not only a place of exchange and new acquisition of artistic skills and professional knowledge. Berlin was rather the passage that showed him the way from passive endurance to the active shaping of an Armenian nation by means of music. Through Komitas, German spirit and scholarship have indelibly etched in Armenian national music.
