Abstract:
The first school library in Yerevan was founded in 1832. It has acted also as a public library and a cultural center. By its collections the library was the richest library in Yerevan and in Eastern Armenia and was considered as the most important cultural and educational center. The awakening of the library began in 1843 when Khachatur Abovyan was appointed as a school director. Nowadays, the collections of the Yerevan Gymnasium, are preserved in the National Library of Armenia.
