В диалектах армянского языка имеются три большие группы названия радуги – пояс (бога или святого), лук (бога или святого) и зеленый – (синий)–красный. Первые два имеют параллели во всем мире, а третье – сугубо местное название. Литературное название ciacan тоже этимологизируется как «пояс бога неба». Выявляются связи с древнейшими мифами о космогонии и «священном браке» неба и земли. Зеленый–красный означает также «свадьба» и ассоциируется с двухцветным поясом жениха. Исследуются также причины некоторых фольклорных представлений, как свадьба волков «слепой дождь», изменение пола при переходе под радугой и т. д. There are three large groups of the appellations of rainbow in Armenian dialects: belt (of god or a saint), bow (of god or a saint) and green – (blue) – red. The formers have parallels in the whole world, the latter is a specific local appellation. The literary word ciacan “rainbow” is also etymologized as “belt of god of sky”. The associations of the rainbow with the archaic myths of cosmogony and hierogamy between heaven and earth are revealed. Green–red means “marriage” as well and is associated with the two-coloured belt of the bridegroom. Some other folk-lore ideas associated with the rainbow are considered as well (e.g. marriage of wolves “sunsower”, the gender change under the rainbow, etc.).
