В середине 80-ых годов XII столетия армянский католикосат, под предводительством Григора IV Отрока, заметно активизировал отношения с тремя конфликтующими между собой влиятельными политическими силами того времени: Византийской империей, Римской католической церковью и Египетским султанатом Аййюбидов. Благодаря дипломатическим усилиям католикоса в течение этого периода стало возможным обеспечение полной безопасности Киликийского армянского княжества, равно как и сохранение хороших взаимоотношений с Византийской империей, Римским Папским престолом и Аййюбидским султанатом. This article is to analyze the foreign policy of Cilician Armenia consisting with the policy of the dominant political powers of that time, the Byzantine Empire, the Holy See of Rome as well as the Ayyubid sultanate in the 80s of the XII century. The Armenians were able to secure their rule over Cilicia by maintaining positive relations with all the three political powers through diplomatic efforts of the Armenian Catholicosate headed by Grigor D'Elia's patriarch who had a leading role in that period.
