В статье рассматриваются подходы и определения метонимии с точки зрения разных теорий. В рамках лингвистической теории метонимия определяется как перенос значения, основанный на пространственной или временной смежности предметов и явлений. Развитие когнитивной лингвистики расширило интерпретацию метонимии, определяя ее как регулярный когнитивный процесс, как важный иструмент познания и осмысления фрагментов объективной действительности. The paper considers the approaches and definitions of metonymy from the point of view of various theories. Linguistically, metonymy is defined as a transfer of word meaning based on spatio-temporal contiguity. With the development of cognitive linguistics, the status of metonymy has increasingly changed being perceived as a regular cognitive process. Cognitive approach to metonymy considers it to be a fundamental tool for the perception of fragments of reality.
