«Եվ չասաց ոչ մի բառ» վեպը հրատարակվել է 1953թ.: Բյոլի շատ աշխատանքներ արտացոլանք են կաթոլիկության, եկեղեցու և ժամանակակից հասարակության: Վեպն անդրադառնում է հետպատերազմյան տարիների՝ ոչ վաղ անցյալում վերապրած այնպիսի խնդիրների, ինչպիսիք են պատերազմի հետևանքով առաջացած սոցիալ-բարոյական խնդիրները, սովն ու թշվառությունը, պատերազմից խեղված ճակատագրերը, մարդկային փուչ կյանքը:Many of Böll’s works reflect the problems of interaction of the Catholic Church and the society. The novel “And Never Said a Word” was published in 1953. It touches upon the realities of post-war years, the social and moral consequences of the tragedy they just suffered, the famine and poverty, the wartorn destinies and ravaged human lives. It is a narrative about people, whose souls had been incurably injured by the recent war, about humble people who had been robbed of happiness, yet did not turn into idle spectators of the dramas of life; they are endowed with deep emotions and passions. The novel traces the development of the characters’ interrelations, the Nazi past of the new authorities, the image of Catholicism in the post-war years.
