The present paper studies the problem of “ semantic references” in relation to Spanish proper names. Stuart Mill, Ramon Almela Perez, Roman Jakobson, Eugenio Coseriu, Jespersen and other linguists are named to be referred to in the study approaches. The novelty o f the article in the field of Spanish studies is that it explores the content-based semantic classification of proper names in the language with some manifestations of synonymy and polysemy.
